Best nine 2016

Near the end of 2015, I posted the collage of Instagram photos the Best Nine app considered my best nine. (I think they’re just the most liked.)

Looking at the collage, it didn’t feel very representative of my year, though.

So, with encouragement from Traci and others, I decided to choose one of my Instagram photos every month that felt significant or like it just fit, and then compare it to my Best Nine at the end of the year.

The photos at the top are my “best nine”, and here are the ones I chose for each month…

They don’t really overlap, except for that weather-beaten tree. I remember almost choosing some of the same ones the app did – some months had a couple photos that seemed like a good fit for that month.

I’m still on the fence about whether I want to do this again, but it is really cool to look back and see snapshots of the past year this way.

  1. Yay! You did it! I love that the second photos for both are different, but similar. I, of course, vote that you do this again. Oh, and thanks so much for the shout out! :D

    1. Same here! I think sometimes it has to do as much with when you happened to post or if people can quickly relate to what you’re posting than the actual content of the post.

  2. Oooh, love that there are some distinct similarities between the two, beyond the weathered tree (which I love). The paintbox and the colorful rock stack. The tub and the mug. The goat on the ladder and the bridge. I do love that Monticello Fog photo at the bottom, but your picks seemed much more personal (which makes sense, as you’re not an algorithm, ha). And it had food, which I always appreciate. :) Interesting experiment!

    1. That is so interesting! I hadn’t even noticed those parallels. And I think I posted fewer food photos this past year, but a few always make their way in. ;)
